The Seal
We support the construction industry, developers, real estate owners and portfolio managers in the development of allergy‒friendly buildings.
We have developed the world's first medical seal for buildings and neighborhoods for both new and existing buildings.
One seal for all!
The world's first medical seal for allergy-friendly construction can be applied to buildings, urban districts and entire infrastructures - both for new builds and for renovating existing buildings. It can also be applied in modular construction or ship, aircraft and vehicle construction.

A holistic view of health in indoor and outdoor spaces
Healthy spaces are not only created by good materials - but by the interplay of environment, construction and use. This is exactly what the AFBA seal evaluates: comprehensive, measurable and people-centered. The AFBA seal is a partnership-based seal - we support you in making buildings healthier together. Entry is flexible and possible in every project phase.
The 4 building blocks of the AFBA seal:
Allergy-friendly planting in outdoor areas
We optimize the planting of open spaces - because quality of life starts right outside the door. As cities are becoming warmer and warmer due to climate change and densification, the pollen season lasts almost 10 months, and it is crucial which plants are used to green cities, districts and houses. The focus here is on reducing pollen intensity.
Building materials for healthy interiors
Materials, surfaces - the interior shows how healthy a building really is. The seal assesses the impact of the building materials on the users of the building, on people. The air inside buildings is 30 times more polluted than outside. People spend 90% of their lives in buildings. A statutory minimum standard is no longer sufficient. What is healthy for allergy sufferers is also healthier for everyone else!
Ventilation and air conditioning technology
Ventilation and air conditioning systems not only ensure pleasant temperatures, but also regulate humidity and filter pollutants, allergens and fine dust from the indoor air. Regular maintenance and the timely replacement of filters are essential to ensure consistently high air quality. Unmaintained systems can become a breeding ground for germs, mold or allergenic particles - with a direct impact on the well-being and health of users.
Facility Management
The cleaning strategy has a significant impact on air quality and the well-being of users. Cleaning agents with fragrances and preservatives can pollute the room air, cause irritation and damage surfaces. A targeted, gentle selection protects both health and materials.
Because rooms carry responsibility.
With the AFBA seal, you show that people's well-being is what counts here. You create spaces that protect, strengthen - and stay. That sets you apart!
Medically sound
Our seal is based on scientific criteria - medically tested and developed with practical relevance.
Further than just sustainable
Sustainable alone is not enough. Sustainable materials can also be harmful. We certify real quality of stay.
Scores points in ESG scoring
Allergy-friendly building and interior design contributes to various ESG criteria, the fulfillment of which is supported by low-pollutant materials, low-emission equipment, energy consumption and air quality, among other things.
Added value for certified persons
The AFBA seal complements existing sustainability certificates as a strong add-on with a health focus.
Can be used internationally
The seal is applicable worldwide - flexible in project types, clear in its message.
Healthy construction - lasting value secured
Anyone who builds a new building or renovates an existing building in an allergy-friendly way today is safeguarding the value of their asset. - Health is the new currency on the real estate market!
Scientific know-how at the interface between engineering and medicine.
We combine structural practice with medical expertise, making the AFBA seal unique.
As a partner to the construction industry, we support project developers, architects and planners on the path to certification. We work closely with our scientific advisory board for the medical assessment.
The three levels of the seal
The three rings are assigned criteria that together form the AFBA seal for allergy-friendly building. The criteria are listed separately for indoor and outdoor areas and together reflect the different areas in which allergenic substances have an effect.
